Glimpsees of the “Rurh of India

Sri Sakti Gorai is one of my friends since 1954, when both of us were post graduate students of the Calcutta University. Sakti contributed to the university students’ annual in 1955, on Koras a tribe of Bengal. Sakti was a scholarly student of Anthropology while I was a fellow student and edited the said annual (Ekata).

Later he joined state govt. as a research officer/Sociologist and served in Asansol Durgapur region for a long period. Sakti did study the various aspects of coal steel belt and made scholarly contributions in many English and Bengali dailies and periodicals. His book ‘Bardhamaner Pratna Pratichi’ covered historical and geophysical aspects of coal-field area. I myself had been richer from the scholarly studies of Sakti and I expect many more will. I am very sure about the success of Sakti’s new book.
