Benjamin Zachariah is a historian based at the Georg Eckert Institute for Educational Media in Braunschweig and works on contemporary historiography at the University of Trier. Trained as a historian in the final years of the last century, he began his career in the usual academic way before developing a deeper interest in how history is understood beyond professional circles. His work explores the role of history in public life, the ways it is written and taught, and how the discipline itself can sometimes undermine its own purpose.
